What was it that made “Lazy Eye” mandatory listening back in 2006? (Holy shit Lazy Eye came out in 2006?) There was the guitar strumming set at the exact mid-point between gentle and brisk, the riffs that would layer in and out through the marathon of a song, and lyrics that spoke to vague, but greater, things: “I’ve been waiting for this moment all my life,” it begins.
“Circadian Rhythm” isn’t a cheap attempt at duplication, but it certainly sounds like it’s by the same band that put “Lazy Eye” together nearly a decade ago (Holy shit a decade.) “Nowhere left to go, stay with me” is as wanting a lyric as anything they’ve written, and their cool sheen hasn’t decayed a bit.
Beter Nature is out September 25 via New Machine Recordings.
