Straight out of the surf shack and channeled through a haze of hysteria and tongue-in-cheek jabs at contemporary surf-rock, “Girls” from Southern California quartet breaks the tired habit gurgling lyrics over fuzz and dubbing it surf-punk. The Royal Suns’ debut EP You Don’t Wanna Know (available via Bandcamp) is a perfect homage to teen angst all the while condemning the morons that buy into the HoldenCaulfield definition of “phonies” (Impressive, considering the lads are all under 21.) The Suns once remarked that they didn’t want to be as boring as The Growlers. Mission accomplished, boys.
