Bandcamp is one of the greatest music services the internet has ever wrought. Other than an easy and beneficial way for small bands to open up a storefront, it’s also a handy resource for discovering new music. In Bandcamp Notables, we engage in the time-honored blogging practice of spotlighting songs we found while exploring the site.
Year of the Zebra is the first part of a double EP release from an Isle of Man band called Postcode. There’s a heavy zebra motif on all of their releases that I don’t quite understand, but hey, part one of this EP series is available here.
This EP described as the more upbeat of the two, but it definitely takes on a lot of different styles, sometimes sounding like a different band altogether. My favorite form is this song, “At Last,” which has a bit of 90s indie rock vibe to it. It’s a picture perfect escalation of intensity the whole way through, releasing in a great big roar of guitar.
